Mama Bear
Diana, a single mother of two young daughters, is jolted awake when a stray bullet hits her house. The police are convinced it was a freak accident, but the encounters escalate - a laser pointer shines through Diana’s window and she spots the silhouette of a man atop a nearby mountain ridge. With the police investigation stonewalled and her children becoming increasingly scared, Diana takes matters into her own hands.

A father-son relationship is tested when Kimo, 16, skips school to get a tattoo. As his father drives them home, a flat tire sends Kimo’s father out on foot to get a spare. Hoping to impress his father, Kimo attempts to remove the flat tire on his own, but soon finds himself pinned under the crushing weight of the truck. When his father returns, they must summon all of their strength and ingenuity to pull off the impossible.
Makai
May, a 10-year-old Native Hawaiian girl, reluctantly joins her father and brother for a day at the beach where they attempt to teach her fishing and swimming. Unlike her deceased mother, May discovers that she stinks at both. Just as she’s about to give up, May hooks a big fish, but it overpowers her and pulls her to the edge of the rocky shore. With her brother and father too far away to hear her cries for help, she calls out to her mother. She receives an answer.

We observe Kenji Sato, an elderly Japanese man, on his final day alive. As Kenji goes about his daily routine, a narrator dives into Kenji’s thoughts and shares insights about his past. As his final hours tick by, one fact becomes clear: Kenji Sato is a very ordinary man. Does such a life have a purpose?
